The facial expression on Bernini's David is astonishing, that concentration! Love them all but this is my favourite too. 😊

The effeminate naked David’s are ridiculous on any level, apart from the fact that , yes it takes skill to produce them. The hat on the first is particularly absurd. Neither of them could swat a fly , let alone a giant warrior.

Of the 2 clothed ones , the first also looks like a drag act. Only the Bernini has any gravitas in the context of the original story.

Michelangelo was just showing off , (nuts mainly) it has absolutely nothing to do with the story of David.

In short apart from Bernini, it’s a renaissance version of a Humanist Disneyland all round.

Fabulous, both in writing and in either bronze or marble.

Wonderful article! I was only aware of the big one. I have not seen these other interpretations, each a unique gem. Thank you!

I had not seen Donatello's marble, the style is fascinating. My favorite though is Michelangelo's. ❤
